Welcome to my blog called "Blogging The 'Boys". This blog is about the premier team in all professional sports, the Dallas Cowboys. I don't want to hear any arguments about the New York Yankees, the Boston Celtics or Los Angeles Lakers, or even something crazy like Manchester United in that other sport called football. Yes, they may have more championships, or longer histories or whatever, but for me and a legion of other hardcore 'Boys enthusiasts, there is simply nothing more divine or sublime as the Dallas Cowboys.
I have loved The 'Boys since I can remember seeing my first NFL game on TV. January 16, 1972, Dallas Cowboys vs. Miami Dolphins, Super Bowl VI at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. Dallas was victorious 24 - 3 and a life long 'Boys fan was born. Here is a little re-cap from that game:
The Cowboys rushed for a record 252 yards and their defense limited the Dolphins to a low of 185 yards while not permitting a touchdown for the first time in Super Bowl history.
Dallas converted Chuck Howley's recovery of Larry Csonka's first fumble of the season into a 3-0 advantage and led at halftime 10-3.
After Dallas received the second-half kickoff, Duane Thomas led a 71-yard march in eight plays for a 17-3 margin.
Howley intercepted Bob Griese's pass at the 50 and returned it to the Miami 9 early in the fourth period, and three plays later Roger Staubach passed 7 yards to Mike Ditka for the final touchdown.
Thomas rushed for 95 yards and Walt Garrison gained 74.
Staubach, voted the game's most valuable player, completed 12 of 19 passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns.
Now I am not talking about being your everyday average Joe fan, I am talking about a life and death, nothing else matters, I would trade my sister for a Cowboys Super Bowl victory kind of fan. If you are reading this you are probably one too, so welcome to the asylum for like-minded 'Boys fanatics.
Along the way we might throw in some discussion on other teams or even other sports, but most of the time we will be discussing The 'Boys. I have opened up comments for each blog post and will not moderate them unless things get out of hand, like excessive profanity or going far off topic. So feel free to join in the discussion and I hope you enjoy the blog.
I have put up an email address where you can send me suggestions or ask questions. Don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks and The 'Boys Rule!
